Step 2 Drain the Old Oil. Locate the oil pan drain plug underneath the car. It is a 13 mm hex bolt that faces towards the rear of the car. Place an oil drain pan underneath the oil pan to catch the draining oil. Remember to place it towards the rear of the car, since the oil will come out of the oil pan in a stream.
